2000 Nissan Pathfinder Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over near Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, a guy called me on a Saturday afternoon. He'd been down at the beach with his dog, set his keys on the bumper for half a second while he rinsed off, and watched them slide into the storm drain. Gone. His 2000 Nissan Pathfinder was sitting in the lot and he had exactly nothing.
He'd already called the dealer. Closed for the weekend. The service line told him Monday at the earliest, and he'd need a tow because they wouldn't program on the lot. He found me, figured it was a long shot, and I told him I could be there in under an hour.
I picked and decoded the door lock mechanically to get him inside and pull the key cut. Once I had the cut, I made a key blank, cut it to the vehicle, and connected through the OBD port to register the new transponder with the immobilizer. On a 2000 Pathfinder the immobilizer system is old enough that the procedure is methodical but not complicated when you have the right equipment and know the sequence. The all-keys-lost process erases whatever was registered before and enrolls the new key as the primary.
I turned the key, it fired right up. His dog was sitting in the passenger seat the whole time watching me like a foreman.
He asked about a spare before I packed up. Smart move. I cut and programmed a second key on the spot. He left with two working keys and didn't lose his whole weekend to a tow yard. The dealer route would have cost him more money, a tow he didn't need, and two days of waiting.
