2019 Nissan 370z Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy in Downtown Fallbrook, parked outside a shop off Main Avenue. He had driven down from his place, stopped to run an errand, and came back to a key-not-detected warning on the dash. Car would not start. He was standing next to a perfectly good 2019 370Z with two fobs that apparently stopped caring.
He had already swapped the battery in the main fob. Fresh CR2032, correct size, but when I asked him how he opened it he described using a flathead screwdriver and just going at it. That told me something before I even pulled up.
I got there, popped the fob open properly, and one of the battery contacts had a small but real bend in it from the pry job. The new CR2032 was sitting at a slight angle. The car was reading the fob as present, barely, but not confidently enough to allow a start. The immobilizer was doing exactly what it is supposed to do: hold the line when the signal is inconsistent.
I reseated the contact, confirmed the battery was lying flat, and tested the start. Came right up. Then I walked both fobs through every function: door lock, unlock, and panic, and confirmed the touch sensors on both handles were responding. Everything solid.
He had already mentally accepted that he needed a new fob programmed. The relief when it turned out to be a bent contact and ten minutes of my time was pretty clear. He saved a good chunk just by having someone actually look at it instead of defaulting to replacement.
