Out near the Lake Poway Area, a guy called me on a Friday night. His 2011 Nissan 370z was sitting in a valet lot. His purse had been grabbed off a table at a nearby spot, and with it went his keys, wallet, and phone. He borrowed someone's phone and made three calls: police, his roommate, then me.
The dealer was already closed. His roommate had called ahead anyway, and the answer was a 3-to-5 business day wait, a tow requirement, and an estimate that made her go quiet for a second before she repeated it back to me.
All-keys-lost on this car is a specific job. It is not the same as adding a spare when you already have one working fob. When all keys are gone, the entire key memory gets wiped. Every registered fob is cleared, including the stolen one, so it cannot start the car again. Then new keys are registered from scratch. I accessed the immobilizer through the OBD port, cleared the old data, and programmed two new fobs. I also decoded the door and cut the emergency blade for each one. By the time his roommate pulled into the lot, both fobs were working and the stolen key was dead to the car.
He drove home that night. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a multi-day wait, and a bill that was a good chunk more than what I charged for two complete keys done on site.
