2019 Infiniti Q70
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Do I need to tow my Q70 to the dealer if I have no working keys?

No. Towing to the dealer is their preferred answer, not the only answer. A mobile locksmith with the right equipment can handle all-keys-lost on site, which means the car stays where it is and you skip the tow bill on top of the key bill. Dealers also typically require ordering the key by VIN and waiting for delivery before they can even schedule the programming appointment. We carry what we need and handle the whole job in one visit.

Q: How long does an all-keys-lost replacement take on a Q70?

Plan for 45 to 90 minutes on site. That window covers security access, pulling the PIN, cutting the blade, programming, and a full function test before I hand it over. The Q70's immobilizer system is not the fastest to negotiate but it is consistent once you have the right tools. Dealers stretch this into a multi-day process because of the VIN-order step. We skip that entirely.

Q: Can I just replace the emergency blade inside my Q70 fob without replacing the whole fob?

Yes, and this is a point worth knowing. The emergency blade and the smart fob are separate components. The blade slides into the fob housing and handles physical door entry only. The fob itself handles wireless lock and unlock and carries the transponder for the ignition. If your fob electronics are working fine and you only need the blade replaced or recut, that is a standalone cutting job.

Q: My Q70 fob works for lock and unlock but the car gave me a key warning on the dash. What does that mean?

Start with the fob battery. A key-not-detected type warning on the dash often shows up before the fob fully dies, while it still has enough power for lock and unlock at close range but not enough for the ignition to read it reliably. If a fresh battery doesn't clear it, the next thing to check is the 12-volt vehicle battery. A weak main battery causes all kinds of odd immobilizer behavior on these cars.

2019 Infiniti Q70 Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near the water in the Bayside area of Imperial Beach when the call came in. Guy had a 2019 Q70 and needed a working emergency blade. His smart fob was intact and functioning fine, but he had pulled the blade out months ago to lend to someone and it never came back. Not a common call, but it happens.

He was calm about it, mostly just curious whether I could handle it without the full fob in hand. I told him I could decode the door cylinder directly, no original blade needed.

I met him near the marina side of the neighborhood. The Q70 was sitting in the sun and he watched me pull out the decoder and work the driver door lock. Takes a few minutes to read all the cuts off the cylinder wafer by wafer. Once I had the cut sequence, I cut a replacement blade to match on the spot.

He slid it into the fob housing and tested it. Door unlocked clean, first try.

He mentioned the dealer had told him they would need to order the whole fob assembly to get him a new blade, which made no sense to him, and honestly made no sense to me either. The blade is its own piece. We handled the actual problem, the one he actually had, without touching anything he didn't need touched.

Infiniti Q70 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I lost all my Infiniti Q70 keys. Can you still make a new one?▼

Yes. All-keys-lost on the Q70 is a job we handle on site. We connect through the OBD port, pull the security PIN from the vehicle's immobilizer, generate fresh key data, cut a new blade, and program the replacement fob. No tow, no VIN-ordered wait at the dealer. The Q70 sits on a Nissan-Infiniti immobilizer architecture that's well-documented in the trade, so this is not a mystery job.
