Common I35 Key Problems
Transponder Key Failure
The blade turns, the dash lights up, but the engine cranks and won't start. The security light may blink or hold steady. That pattern usually points to a failed transponder chip inside the key head, worn out from age or a hard knock. We can program a replacement transponder key on-site, typically in under an hour, and we test it in the ignition before we leave.
Ignition Antenna Ring Failure
A small coil wraps around the ignition cylinder and reads the signal from your transponder chip. After two decades of heat cycles and vibration, that coil can wear out. When it does, the factory immobilizer can't see the key, even if the key itself is perfectly good. We test the antenna ring before recommending anything else, because cutting a new key won't solve a bad ring. If the ring is the problem, we can replace it and reprogram your keys on the spot.
Worn High Security Blade
Years of daily use wear down the laser-cut blade profile until the key won't turn smoothly or sticks in the ignition. Customers often assume the ignition cylinder is the problem, but the real issue is just a tired blade. We check the blade condition first, and if that's the culprit, we cut a fresh one to factory spec on-site and pair it with a properly programmed transponder chip.
Can You Program an I35 Key at Home?
You can handle the remote fob yourself using the ignition key cycle method. Insert and remove the key at least six times within ten seconds until the hazard lights flash, then turn to ACC and press any button on the remote within five seconds. That programs the keyless entry remote only; it does nothing for the transponder chip that allows the engine to start. Transponder programming requires professional equipment. If you're only dealing with a fob that stopped locking and unlocking, try the cycle method first. If the car won't start, call us.
