La Mesa Village is one of those neighborhoods where parking gets creative. Older apartment complexes, street spots, the occasional gravel lot tucked between buildings. I got a call from a guy who had parked his 2003 Infiniti I35 the night before and came out the next morning holding half a key. The blade had snapped at the shoulder, and the other half was still in the door lock. He had the ignition half in his hand and was staring at the door like it owed him an explanation.

I got there with my tools and extracted the broken piece from the door cylinder without damaging the lock. From there I decoded the cut from the cylinder itself, so I had everything I needed to cut a fresh key blade without digging around for the key code. Cut the new key, confirmed it worked the door and the ignition mechanically, then connected through the OBD port and programmed the transponder chip to the car's immobilizer. First turn, engine started and stayed running.
I cut him a second key on the spot so he had a spare. He mentioned the dealer had told him over the phone it would be a few days and cost a good chunk of money. He saved a solid amount going the mobile route, and he did not have to leave the neighborhood to do it.
