Aveo Key Tech by Year
T200 Hits the Lot
T200 Aveo (2004-2006) launched with the Megamos ID13 fixed-code transponder built into the key head. Sedan, hatch, base, LT, every trim got the same chip system. OBD programming required from day one; no on-board learn ever offered.
T250 Facelift Rolls In
T250 (2007-2010) carried over the same Megamos ID13 immobilizer. Restyle outside, identical key architecture under the head. Some trims shifted from basic blade keys to flip keys, but the chip itself never changed.
T200 Late: Chip Update, Same Shell
Final year (2011) kept the same Megamos ID13 chip and OBD-only programming, but trim and key styling shuffled. Flip keys on higher trims, blade keys on base. Same workflow either way.
Identify Your Aveo Key
A simple metal key with a chip hidden inside the plastic head. No buttons, no battery. It just needs to be cut correctly and programmed to your car's immobilizer.
Plastic head with 2 or 3 buttons fused to the blade. Lock, unlock, sometimes panic. Same Megamos ID13 chip inside the head as the basic key.
Flip-style key on the T250 facelift years. Press the button, the blade swings out. Same Megamos chip, same OBD-only programming workflow as every other Aveo key.
What an Aveo Key Costs Here

Aveo Key Problems We See in San Diego
Aveo Refuses to Start After Battery Swap
Security light flashing, engine cranking but not catching? Passlock sensor in the cylinder has failed. Common on 2004-2010 Aveos. We diagnose in Hillcrest or downtown and bypass or replace the sensor.
Transponder Sync Drop
Owners assume the key died, but a battery disconnect or jump start scrambled the ECM. The 2004-2008 Aveo lost its handshake with the transponder chip. We reprogram to the immobilizer through OBD-II in about 20 minutes.
Fob Battery Burning Up Fast
Body Control Module on the T200 Aveo can lose its key sync after a deep voltage drop. Crank, no fire, security light glares back at you. We rerun the key learn through OBD, the BCM relearns the chip, you drive away. About 25 minutes total.
Cylinder Wear Catches Up
We check how the key sits in the cylinder first. Standard blade on Aveos wears the ignition wafers, and you get hard starts or a key that will not turn. Cylinder replacement on-site, security relearn done so the transponder still talks to the immobilizer.
Aveo Key DIY: Reality Check
Honest answer: nothing. The Aveo has no on-board key learn mode, period. Every key swap, every spare, every all-keys-lost job goes through OBD-II programming with a real scanner. No jumper wire trick, no ignition cycle, no DIY workaround.
Same answer for the T250 Aveo. OBD-only. The 2007-2011 ECU does not accept on-board key learning, so YouTube tutorials for older Chevys simply do not apply here.

Aveo Trivia
Aveo was GM's rebadge of the Daewoo Kalos, born in Bupyeong, Korea. Despite the Chevy bowtie, the immobilizer architecture was pure Daewoo and incompatible with any other Chevy on the lot. That is why so many local Chevy shops would refuse Aveo key work and punt customers to the dealer in Kearny Mesa.
