2007 Chevrolet Aveo
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2007 Chevrolet Aveo Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy over in Flinn Springs called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He was renting at an apartment complex off the hill and had lost his only key for his 2007 Aveo. No spare. Car sitting in the lot, totally inaccessible.

He had already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in and quoted him a number that made him pause. He figured he had no choice until a neighbor told him to try a mobile locksmith first.

I pulled up about twenty minutes after he called. Started at the door lock, decoded the blade positions mechanically, and cut a key blank on site. That part goes fast. The slower part is the transponder enrollment, which I ran through the OBD port with my programmer. All-keys-lost on these Aveos means the system has to go through a full sequence to register the new chip, and you just wait it out while it runs.

Total time at his car was under forty-five minutes. He tested the key himself, turned the ignition, engine held, no stall. That confirmed the chip was enrolled and the immobilizer was satisfied.

He mentioned the dealer quote again while I was packing up. I told him what he paid me was a lot less than that, and that included me driving out to Flinn Springs. He just nodded and said he wished he had called first.
