DJ Facelift: Engine-Specific Programming
Programming requirements can vary depending on your engine, which is why we always verify by VIN before the van rolls. The facelift kept the same 3-button laser-cut transponder key with a Mazda proprietary chip and CR2032 cell, but Mazda offered two different engines here. The 2.5L and the 2.3L turbo may need different programming protocols, so your VIN matters more than your trim name.
