2012 Mazda CX-7 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A retired bus driver out in San Diego Country Estates called me on a Tuesday morning.
He goes to a dialysis center in Ramona three times a week, and he'd driven himself there that morning on a key fob that had been acting up for a couple of days. By the time he parked, the remote functions had stopped working entirely. His aide wasn't available, getting a tow arranged wasn't realistic between treatment windows, and the nearest Mazda dealer wasn't close to being a same-morning option.
He called me from the waiting room.
I got there while he was still at his appointment. His 2012 CX-7 was sitting in the lot, fob in his pocket doing nothing on the remote side. I pulled the fob apart on my work surface in the van. The CR2025 was reading low, but the contact clip on the negative side had a slight bend that was keeping it from making solid contact even with a fresh cell. Straightened the clip, seated a new CR2025, and cleaned the contact points.
Then I walked every function: touch unlock on both front handles, lock button, the full button layout, and confirmed the vehicle was seeing the fob at normal range. Everything came back.
He came out after treatment, tested the fob himself in the parking lot, and drove home. He didn't miss a session. Didn't need a tow. The dealer route would have been a scheduling problem he genuinely couldn't solve that week. This one got handled in his parking lot while he was inside.
