Mazda 5 Key Tech Across the Run
CR Launch: NATS Remote Head Key
Moderate security with the NATS immobilizer. Your key is a remote head style with an ID46 PCF7952 transponder, three buttons, standard cut blade. We register it through the OBD-II port under your dash, no flatbed, no service-counter wait.
CR Facelift: ID47 + PIN Code
Mazda bumped the chip to an ID47 and added a PIN code requirement for programming. Same remote head shape, same three buttons, same CR1620 battery. The upgraded chip means generic Amazon blanks usually fail, and you need a locksmith with PIN extraction capability.
CW: Flip Key + Advanced NATS
Mazda switched to a flip key with a high-security blade, an ID47 chip, and Advanced NATS that requires server authentication. Battery also changed to CR2032. These take longer and cost a bit more, but we handle them on-site with the right server tokens.
Identify Your Mazda 5 Key
Traditional key with built-in remote buttons. Insert into the ignition to start, the buttons lock and unlock the doors.
Blade folds into the fob body when not in use. High-security cut requires specialized equipment to duplicate.
Mazda 5 Pricing by Generation in SD
Every quote includes the blank, the cut, the transponder programming, and a live test. Lockout service runs $105-$145.

Need two keys made at once? We cut and register both on the spot for less than Mazda of San Diego charges for one.
Mazda 5 Key Problems We Solve in SD
Transponder Key Failure
The antenna ring around your ignition cylinder corrodes over time, especially on 2006-2010 cars. NATS can't read your key's ID46 chip, engine refuses to fire. We test the antenna ring first; a $40 repair sometimes saves you $200.
Remote Fob Battery Drain
First check is water damage. Remote head design on 2006-2013 cars lets moisture through button seams, shorting the board and killing cells in days. A fresh CR1620 is cheap; if the board is corroded, we swap your chip into a new shell.
NATS System Lockout
Swapped the 12V and now no keys start the engine. Hits 2011-2015 cars. NATS sometimes loses key registration after a power interruption, no DIY fix. We re-pair your existing keys through OBD-II, usually under 30 minutes.
Blade Wear
Owners blame the ignition when the real problem is a worn blade. Standard blades on pre-2014 cars wear fast, and high-security blades on 2014-2015 cars are harder to duplicate worn. We cut from code, not your old key.
DIY a Mazda 5 Key? Reality Check
Zero DIY self-programming for these years. The NATS immobilizer requires professional OBD-II programming with tools like the Autel IM608 or Xhorse VVDI.
Same answer here. The ID47 chip and PIN code requirement mean you need a professional programmer. No ignition cycle trick will register a fresh transponder.
Advanced NATS with server authentication makes DIY impossible. These require Mazda server tokens and specialized equipment to pair a fresh key.

Worth Knowing
The Mazda 5 (sold as Mazda Premacy in Japan) was one of the only compact minivans with sliding rear doors. Mazda kept costs down by sharing the NATS immobilizer system across the Mazda 3, Mazda 6, and Mazda 5 platforms. Same security architecture, three very different vehicles.
