2012 Mazda 5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A call came in from Harbison Canyon, out in Alpine. The guy on the phone was a retired bus driver who did dialysis three times a week at a center nearby. His aide was off that day, his only fob had stopped being recognized by the car, and getting to a Mazda dealer across town was not a scheduling inconvenience for him. It was a medical conflict.
I got there before his appointment window closed. The fob battery tested low, so I started there. Swapped the CR2025, seated it correctly, snapped the shell. The car picked it up immediately. But the fob range was still short and the door behavior was inconsistent, so I ran a full check through the diagnostic port while I had the equipment out.
The fob itself had an intermittent contact issue inside the shell from years of being twisted off a heavy keyring. One of the internal contact points had a slight bend. I cleaned and re-tensioned it, retested all four buttons, walked the doors, and confirmed the car was reading the fob at normal distance before I packed up.
He didn't leave the center. Didn't reschedule treatment. The dealer would have meant arranging a tow or a ride across town, waiting days for an appointment, and paying a good chunk more for the privilege of sitting in a waiting room. He saved all of that by making one phone call.
