The call came from a farm manager who was parked on a gravel access road between rows of avocado trees, about 25 minutes outside Spring Valley. I got into the vehicle, backed up the keyless entry module data with my programmer, decoded the lock with my Lishi tool so I could get a read on the blade cut, and then cut a replacement key blade on site. After that I registered the new fob through the OBD port. The car started on that gravel road.
He had mentioned the dealer as a reference point. It would have meant a tow first, since no flatbed was getting deep into that orchard easily, and then a wait on parts and a slot in the service queue. He saved a good chunk going mobile, and the car never left the property.
