How the xA Key System Works
1st Generation (NCP61) - San Diego
Every 2004-2006 xA ships with a TOY43 high-security blade and a Toyota 4D-67 (ID67) transponder chip in the head. No buttons on most trims. The immobilizer is a standard Toyota system shared with the JDM Toyota ist, programmable through OBD with the Autel. Toyota didn't update the system across the three-year US run.
Which xA Key Do You Have?
Plain TOY43 high-security blade with the Toyota 4D-67 (ID67) chip molded into the plastic head. No remote buttons on the base xA. Twist it in the ignition, the chip authenticates, the engine fires.

Price includes key blank, cutting, transponder programming to your ECU, and full testing, all done at your location. Done on-site anywhere in San Diego County.
EZ Car Keyz vs San Diego Toyota Dealers
Toyota dealers in San Diego no longer stock TOY43 blanks for the xA and will tell you to come back in two weeks after they order one in. Marco has them on the van right now in San Diego, with the Toyota 4D-67 (ID67) chip ready to pair. Same Toyota authentication, same OBD procedure, no two-week wait, no tow.
Common xA Key Problems in San Diego
Worn 4D-67 Transponder Chip
Engine cranks, dies after a half second, security light flashing. After 20 years baking in San Diego sun in Spring Valley or Otay Mesa, the Toyota 4D-67 (ID67) chip in the TOY43 key head loses authentication. Marco cuts a fresh TOY43 via Autel and OBD-II.
Immobilizer Antenna Ring Wear - San Diego
After 20 years and a dozen sun cycles, the plastic key head on the xA cracks at the ring eye; the 4D-67 chip antenna inside loses contact and authentication fails. Marco swaps the head, transfers the chip if good, or cuts a fresh TOY43 in San Diego.
Key Blade Wear - San Diego
Dead 12V or a sloppy jump knocks the Toyota immobilizer out of sync with a good xA key. Engine cranks but won't fire. Marco plugs the Autel into OBD-II in San Diego and runs the Toyota relearn to resync the key and ECU.
Can You Self-Program an xA Key in San Diego?
No. Every xA chip programming step requires OBD with professional equipment like the Autel IM608. All-keys-lost requires a Toyota TIS server PIN on top of that. Call Marco at (619) 876-1271 and the whole job runs curbside in San Diego.

Did You Know?
The Scion xA sat on the NCP platform, the same one underpinning the JDM-only Toyota ist. Toyota built both cars on the same line in Japan, with the same immobilizer ECU, the same TOY43 blade, and the same 4D-67 (ID67) transponder chip. The only differences were the badges and the steering wheel side. Marco has technically pulled an ist key from a JDM import in Carmel Mountain Ranch and cut a US-spec xA blank to it with no modifications. Same car, two countries, one Toyota key system.
