How the xB Key System Works
First Generation (XP30) - San Diego
First-gen xB (2004-2006) sits on the Toyota Echo platform and takes a TOY43 high-security blade with the older Toyota 4C (ID4C) transponder chip. No buttons on the base trim. The immobilizer is a Toyota system, programmable through OBD with the Autel.
Second Generation (E150) - San Diego
Second-gen xB launched in 2008 (no 2007 model year in the US) on the Toyota Corolla platform, with a TOY44 high-security blade and a Toyota 4D-67 (ID67) chip. Different blank, different chip, different OBD pairing routine than the first-gen.
Release Series (E150) - San Diego
2010-2012 xBs added the MOZB52TH 3-button remote head key as an upgrade, still on the TOY44 blade with the Toyota 4D-67 chip. CR2016 battery in the head, lock/unlock/panic buttons. Programming requires OBD through the Autel, which Marco handles curbside in San Diego.
Third Generation (E160) - San Diego
2013-2015 xBs upgraded to a Toyota G chip (still in the TOY44 keyway), more resistant to cloning. The remote head shell stayed similar but the chip generation changed. Marco carries G chip stock on the van for every San Diego call covering the late-run cars.
Which xB Key Do You Have?
Plain TOY43 high-security blade with the Toyota 4C (ID4C) chip molded into the plastic head. No buttons. First-gen 2004-2006 xB, on the Toyota Echo platform. Twist in the ignition, chip authenticates, engine fires.
Plain TOY44 high-security blade with the Toyota 4D-67 (ID67) chip molded into the plastic head. No buttons. Second-gen 2008-2012 xB base trim, on the Corolla platform.
MOZB52TH 3-button remote head key for 2010-2012 xBs, lock/unlock/panic buttons in the head, CR2016 battery, Toyota 4D-67 (ID67) chip inside. One unit handles starting and remote functions.
Late-run 2013-2015 xB key on the TOY44 blade with a Toyota G chip in the head. More secure than the older 4D-67, but Marco pairs it through OBD with the Autel at the curb in San Diego.
xB Key Pricing in San Diego County
Every price includes the key blank, cutting, transponder programming, and testing, all done at your location. Done on-site anywhere in San Diego County.
EZ Car Keyz vs San Diego Toyota Dealers
Toyota of El Cajon will quote one price for a first-gen xB key and another for a second-gen, but they'll quote you a tow either way and a week of waiting on parts because they don't stock the older chip generations. Marco carries every xB chip on the van, cuts both keyways (TOY43 for 2004-2006, TOY44 for 2007-2015), pairs through OBD with the Autel, at half the dealer cost, curbside in San Diego.
Common xB Key Problems in San Diego
Wrong Chip Generation Bought Online
Most common xB call Marco runs in San Diego. Owner buys a TOY44 on eBay assuming all xBs are the same, plugs into a 2005, nothing because first-gen uses TOY43 with the older Toyota 4C chip. Marco shows up with the right blank, pairs via OBD-II with the Autel.
Remote Fob Battery Drain - San Diego
Aftermarket switchblade kits sell for $40 on Amazon and xB owners try the chip swap themselves. The transfer destroys the chip antenna 9/10; the key won't authenticate to the immobilizer afterward. Marco fixes botched conversions weekly in San Diego.
Key Programming Lockout - San Diego
Dead 12V or a sloppy jump knocks the xB immobilizer out of sync with a good key, engine cranks but won't fire. Marco plugs the Autel into OBD-II in San Diego and runs the Toyota relearn to resync.
Immobilizer Antenna Ring Failure - San Diego
The MOZB52TH remote head shells crack at the seam if carried on a heavy keyring, common in San Diego with so many things hanging off the key. Cracked shell shifts the chip antenna and authentication drops. Marco swaps the shell or cuts and pairs fresh.
Can You Self-Program an xB Key in San Diego?
No. First-gen xB (2004-2006) uses the Toyota 4C chip, which requires OBD programming with professional equipment like the Autel IM608. There is no DIY key-dance for the first-gen. Marco runs it curbside in San Diego.
No. 2008-2012 xBs run the Toyota 4D-67 chip, which requires OBD programming. All-keys-lost adds a Toyota TIS server PIN requirement. Marco has both covered curbside in San Diego.
Some 2010-2012 MOZB52TH remote button functions can be re-paired through a door-cycle dance on a working key, but the chip itself requires Marco's OBD tools. Call (619) 876-1271 and the whole job runs curbside in San Diego.
No. 2013-2015 xBs run the Toyota G chip with TIS server PIN authentication for all-keys-lost. No DIY workaround exists. Marco runs the full procedure curbside in San Diego.

Did You Know?
The xB famously changed everything between the 2006 and 2007 model years. The first-gen (2004-2006) sat on the Toyota Echo platform with a TOY43 blade and a Toyota 4C (ID4C) chip. The second-gen (2008-2015) moved to the Corolla platform with a TOY44 blade and a Toyota 4D-67 (ID67) chip, then again to a G chip in 2013. Three chip generations in one model name, all under the same boxy roof. Marco still pulls every variant out of San Diego driveways from Encinitas to El Cajon.
