2014 Scion XB Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near Carlton Hills, a guy at a gas station off the freeway had his 2014 Scion XB key going stiff in the ignition. He could feel the blade dragging on every turn. He was smart enough not to force it.
He called me before it snapped.
When I got there, the blade was visibly worn. Years of use had rounded the cuts down enough that the wafers were catching instead of riding clean. The remote still worked at close range, but that was not going to matter if the key snapped off at the base and stayed in the cylinder.
I decoded the lock from the door side, where the wafers had seen less wear and still read clearly. Cut a fresh blade to match, then handled the transponder enrollment through the OBD port. One cycle and the car started on the first turn. The remote was already paired to the receiver, so I verified lock, unlock, and the third button, then confirmed range from across the lot.
He was back on the freeway in well under an hour from when he called me. He mentioned the dealer wanted him to tow it in and wait a few days. He saved a good chunk just by calling a mobile tech instead.
A worn blade at a gas station is one of the cleaner jobs I get. The stress the customer walks in with is usually bigger than the actual repair.
