2004 Scion XA Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Richland, a college kid had been putting off a spare key for his 2004 Scion xA for over a year. His parents kept bringing it up. He kept brushing it off because getting to the Toyota dealer meant either skipping a morning class or burning a Saturday, and the nearest one was a solid thirty minutes each way.
He texted me the night before and I was at his place before noon.
The xA uses a transponder key with a separate remote fob, so there were two things to take care of. I decoded the lock on site, cut a replacement blade to match, and handled the transponder enrollment through the OBD port. Then I synced the remote so the door lock buttons worked. He watched the whole thing from his doorstep, backpack already on.
I walked him through checking the fob battery before it gets weak enough to cause confusion, because on these the first sign is usually shorter range before it quits entirely.
He made his noon class. The dealer had quoted him more than double what he paid me, and that was for a single key with a drive each way baked in.
