Element Key System 2003 to 2011
1st Generation (Early)
Launch 2003-2006 era. Remote-head transponder key with the Philips ID46 chip in a three-button housing. On-board two-key learn works if two originals are in hand. No factory push-button start, no smart proximity, ever on this body style.
1st Generation (Mid)
Mid-cycle refresh 2007-2008 kept the same ID46 transponder remote-head. Identical locksmith workflow to launch builds. Trim updates inside, key system unchanged.
1st Generation (Late)
Final 2009-2011 production carried the ID46 architecture straight through discontinuation. Still a transponder remote-head, still on-board two-key learn, still no factory push-button start despite the occasional incorrect forum claim.

Same warranty terms the dealer offers, parts and programming both. Difference is the dealer will probably tell you Element blanks are discontinued. They are not. We carry them on the truck.
Element Problems We Fix in San Diego
ID46 Immobilizer Sync Loss
Older Elements lose the ID46 trust handshake after 15-plus years. Dash lights, no crank. We read the ECU PIN, clone, cut a new blade in your driveway.
Wrong Push-Button Claims
About once a quarter we get a call from someone convinced their Element should accept a proximity fob because a forum post said so. It will not. Every 2003-2011 Element shipped with a remote-head transponder running ID46. Smart-key style is aftermarket.
Remote Head Housing Wear
Element remote-head buttons take a beating from owners who treated these like toolboxes. Rubber dome cracks, contact dome separates, lock button double-fires. We rebuild the housing on the truck or transfer the ID46 chip and blade into a fresh shell.
Coastal Humidity Module Corrosion
Encinitas and Carlsbad Elements get module corrosion from coastal humidity sitting in the door speaker openings. Lock and unlock buttons fail intermittently first, then quit completely. We replace the module on-site and pair the new one in your driveway.
Can You Program an Element Key Yourself?
Sort of. Honda's two-key on-board procedure adds a third if you have two working keys. New key still needs to be cut and ID46-programmed first by a locksmith.
Definitely not for all-keys-lost. ECU PIN read and ID46 chip write both require pro equipment. Pro stack only.

Element Trivia
Honda built the Element from 2003 to 2011 as the deliberately boxy crossover with rubber-floor cleanability and the unusual rear-hinged back doors that nobody else copied. The whole production run shipped with a transponder remote-head key running the Philips ID46 chip. Forum posts occasionally claim the Element offered push-button start. None did, ever. Every Element key that arrives at our truck wearing a proximity case is aftermarket conversion work, not factory.
