S2000 Key Generations 2000 to 2009
AP1 Early
AP1 launch 2000-2003. F20C-powered roadster with the Philips ID46 chip in a standard transponder key and a separate two-button remote on most builds. Independent fob, independent ignition key. Cleanest pre-integration form factor Honda shipped on a sports car.
AP1 Late
AP1 2004-2005 refresh trim. Same F20C engine, same ID46 transponder architecture. Late builds in this slice started integrating the remote functions into a single remote-head housing, which is why some 2004 cars look different from others.
AP2
AP2 2006-2009 final years. F22C1 2.2L engine with more low-end torque and a lower 8,200 rpm redline. ID46 chip continued through the end of production in a fully integrated remote-head housing. Last factory S2000 key in the world.

EZ Car Keyz vs. San Diego Honda Dealer
Honda dealers stopped carrying S2000 blanks years ago because the car has been out of production since 2009. We never stopped. Same OEM-grade key, same warranty, cut and programmed at your Carmel Valley garage instead of waiting for a special order.
S2000 Problems We Fix in San Diego
ID46 Immobilizer Sync Loss
2000-2009 S2000s drop the ID46 trust handshake after 20-plus years of heat cycling, especially track-day cars. Dash lights, no crank. We read the immobilizer data, clone to a fresh ID46, cut a new blade. Most surviving cars are garage-kept, easier to read.
Worn Ignition Cylinders
Track-driven S2000s wear ignition cylinders down faster than any other Honda. Cold start, hot shutdown, cold start again every weekend. Ignition gritty before the blade is in? Tumblers are worn. We cut a fresh blade as diagnostic. Cylinder shot, we say so.
Aftermarket Alarm Confusion
A lot of S2000s got aftermarket alarms or kill switches added in the early-to-mid 2000s when the car was the enthusiast target. Twenty years later those modules fail quietly and break the starter circuit. We trace the wiring on the curb and bypass or repair.
Can You Program an S2000 Key Yourself?
Sort of. Two-key on-board procedure adds a third if you have two working keys. New key still needs to be cut and ID46-programmed first by a locksmith.
Definitely not for all-keys-lost. ECU PIN read and ID46 chip write require pro tools.
Track-driven S2000s often have remote-only fobs replaced after impact damage. We rebuild on-site.

S2000 Trivia
Honda launched the S2000 for 2000 as a 50th-anniversary roadster with the F20C 2.0L screaming to a 8,800 rpm redline at 240 hp, the highest specific output of any production naturally aspirated engine at the time. The 2004 AP2 refresh swapped to the F22C1 2.2L for more low-end torque but dropped the redline to 8,200 rpm. Honda killed the car after 2009 with no replacement. From a locksmith chair the entire 2000-2009 run used the Philips ID46 chip, which keeps a clone job straightforward as long as the immobilizer data still reads.
