2004 Honda S2000 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy in Del Mar Heights who drove his S2000 to a coin laundry, came back out, and the car just cranked. No start. Same key he'd used for years.
He'd already made one bad call before finding me. Some outfit from a generic Google ad had come out, charged him a significant amount, and left him with a key that started the car once and then stopped working reliably. He found me through Google Guaranteed and the first thing he asked, before anything else, was how he could verify I was actually licensed. That's a fair question and I respect anyone who asks it.
I gave him my BSIS license number right on the phone. He pulled it up on the state website while we were still talking. By the time I pulled up to the laundry, he was already less tense.
The original key had a hairline crack in the plastic head, right over the transponder chip. Enough to cause intermittent reads, which explained why the previous guy got one good start and called it done. The chip itself was still intact. I transferred the chip into a new key head, cut a fresh blade to the vehicle, and programmed it on site.
Turned the key, engine came up clean. I had him do it himself three more times just so he could feel it catch consistently.
He mentioned the dealer quoted him a number that made him wince. He paid a fraction of that with me, same day, in a parking lot.
