First Generation (RA)
1st-gen 1995-1998. Plain mechanical or early transponder. Hardware-store can copy these on most builds.
Second Generation (RL1)
2nd-gen 1999-2004. First Odyssey immobilizer with Philips ID46 chip. Standard transponder with separate remote.
Third Generation (RL3/RL4)
3rd-gen 2005-2010 carried the Philips ID46 chip forward in a remote-head integration. Three buttons, separate panic. Same OBD pairing workflow as the 2nd gen. The build years most San Diego families now drive as their hand-me-down minivan.
Fourth Generation (RL5)
4th-gen 2011-2017 moved the chip family to ID47 (Phase 1 correction documented: 2011-2017 is ID47, not ID46 as several aftermarket databases still list it). Smart-key option arrived on higher trims toward the end of the run. Wrong chip equals dead minivan after programming.
Fifth Generation (RL6)
5th-gen 2018-2025 made smart proximity standard across the lineup with the ID47 chip backbone and push-button start. The 2018-2022 builds sit inside the Honda 2012-2022 rolling-code window covered by the Rolling Pwn advisory.
