2012 Honda Odyssey
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Honda Odyssey Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A family came out of a taqueria near Millenia on a Friday night and their 2012 Odyssey would not start. The fob had gone completely dark, and neither parent knew there was a backup procedure for that situation. Their plan was to leave the van in the lot overnight and figure it out Monday. They called me mostly just to ask if anything could be done that late.

I was about 15 minutes away.

The remote head key on this generation Odyssey has a small mechanical blade that you can use to get into the vehicle even when the fob is dead, but starting the engine is a different story. The transponder still has to communicate with the immobilizer, and that only happens when the fob has enough battery to power it. Their CR2025 was completely flat. Once I swapped in a fresh cell and confirmed the fob was reading correctly, the van started on the first turn.

I tested every button before I handed it back. Lock, unlock, the sliding door buttons, panic. Everything worked. The whole call was under 30 minutes.

They drove home that night. The dealer would have meant leaving the van there, waiting through the weekend, and paying a good chunk more than what they paid me. When the parts are already in the van, a Friday at 9pm runs exactly like a Tuesday morning.
