1996 Honda Odyssey Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy in La Mesa Village, parked in a lot off La Mesa Boulevard. He'd just finished a long shift and found his 1996 Odyssey remote completely unresponsive.
Not weak range, not intermittent. Nothing. He pressed every button standing right next to the van and got zero response from the locks. The blade still turned and the van started, so at least he wasn't stranded in the mechanical sense, but he had no remote function at all and didn't want to keep it that way.
I pulled up and the first thing I did was open the fob. The CR2025 inside looked original. Not 1996 original, but old enough that the voltage had dropped below what the remote circuit needs to transmit. A lot of owners don't realize these fobs will stop working on remote functions well before the battery reads dead on a basic tester, because the transmitter draws a quick spike of current the meter never sees.
Fresh CR2025, housing snapped back together, and I walked through all four buttons at the van. Locks responding, all buttons confirmed. That was the whole job.
He mentioned he'd almost called the dealer, who had quoted him a wait plus an appointment slot days out for what he assumed was a full replacement. He'd been dreading it. The actual fix took less time than finding parking.
