2013 Honda Odyssey Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already in the Naval Base Area of Coronado when the call came in. A resident near the base had been at a pharmacy lot and his 2013 Odyssey wouldn't start. He'd pressed the unlock button, nothing. Pressed again, nothing. He assumed the fob was dead and tried to get in manually. The van started once he got in, then died. He figured something was wrong with the van itself and nearly called a tow.
He mentioned he'd had a jump start earlier that week after leaving a light on overnight. That was the clue.
When I got there, I pulled the fob apart first. The CR2025 was completely flat. Swapped it out, and the remote functions came right back. But the van still wouldn't stay running. The immobilizer wasn't seeing the transponder as valid anymore. That's a known side effect of certain power interruptions on these Hondas. The jump start hadn't caused any damage, it had just knocked the sync out of alignment.
I connected my programmer to the OBD port, went through the transponder registration procedure for the remote head key, and cleared the immobilizer fault. Tested every button including both sliding door controls, the trunk release, and the panic. Walked him through how to use the mechanical key blade if the fob ever went completely dead again so he wouldn't be stranded.
He had a prescription to pick up. He made it.
The dealer's earliest availability was the following day, and he would have needed a ride just to drop the van off. That's a non-starter when you need medication.
