1995 Honda Odyssey
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How long does the job take once you arrive?

For this generation Odyssey, it's one of the faster jobs I do. Decoding the lock or working from a key code, cutting the blade, and testing it in the door and ignition runs about 15 to 25 minutes total on site. There's no programming step, no module connection, no relearn sequence. If you want a spare cut at the same time, add maybe five minutes.

Q: Can you make a key faster than the dealer?

Yes, and by a wide margin on a vehicle this age. A dealer visit means driving or towing there, waiting for a service writer, waiting for the cut, and paying shop-rate labor for a job that takes under half an hour. On a 1995 Odyssey there's nothing to program, so there's no reason to sit in a service bay for an hour and a half.

Q: I have a key but it's worn down and sometimes doesn't turn smoothly. Do I need a new lock or just a new key?

Usually just a new key. After 30 years, the original blade gets worn, and a worn key stops engaging the lock tumblers the way it should. Before assuming the cylinder itself is bad, get a fresh key cut from the code or decoded off the lock. Nine times out of ten, a properly cut blade fixes the sticky or stiff feel.

Q: My ignition turns but feels loose or the key is harder to pull out than it used to be. Is that a key issue or something else?

On a vehicle this age, that's usually the ignition cylinder wearing out, not the key itself. These cylinders see 30 years of use. The wafers inside wear down, springs weaken, and the key can start to feel sloppy going in or sticky coming out. A worn key can accelerate that, so it's worth having a fresh blade cut first to see if that helps. If the feel doesn't improve with a clean cut key, the cylinder is the likely culprit.

1995 Honda Odyssey Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a physical therapist out near Bayside in Imperial Beach. She had patients booked back to back, her 1995 Honda Odyssey was sitting dead in the clinic lot, and getting to a dealer wasn't happening. She'd lost her only key and was stuck between appointments, just trying to hold her day together.

I drove out during her lunch window.

The job itself was quiet. No modules, no scan tool, no countdown timers. I decoded the lock, cut a replacement blade, tested it in the door and the ignition. Both worked clean on the first try. I cut a spare while I was at it so she'd have a backup, which is the one thing people almost never do until they're already standing in a parking lot wishing they had.

She came out after her one o'clock patient and both keys were on her desk. Her car never moved. The dealer option would have meant a tow, a wait, and canceling her afternoon. That's the whole point of showing up mobile. You keep working, I handle the key.

Honda Odyssey Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a key made after hours or on the weekend?▼

Call us. Dealer service departments keep their own hours, and evenings, Sundays, and holidays are often a no. For a 1995 Odyssey specifically, this is a mechanical key job, which means it doesn't need a dealer at all. We come to you in Bayside and Imperial Beach on weekends and evenings, cut the key on site, and you're done. No tow, no waiting until Monday.
