Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2023 Honda Odyssey Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A rideshare driver called me from the coin laundry near Westside Escondido on a Tuesday afternoon. He had his 2023 Odyssey sitting in the lot, running on a prayer, and a story I've heard too many times.

He'd already paid another locksmith through one of those low-bid Google ads. That guy showed up, collected his money, and left him with a key that would crank the engine but had zero remote function. No lock. No unlock. None of the seven buttons did anything. The car started, but that was it.

First thing he asked me on the phone: how do I know you're legitimate. I gave him my BSIS license number right there. He pulled up the state verification page while we were still talking and confirmed it himself. That's exactly what he should do, and I was glad he did it.

When I got to the lot, I plugged in and pulled the key data. What the previous guy had done was a partial registration, just enough to get the immobilizer to accept an engine start but the remote functions never fully paired. It wasn't a hardware problem. It was an incomplete job.

I ran the full programming sequence using my Smart Pro, verified all seven buttons against the vehicle's response, and walked him through each one on site. Lock, unlock, the liftgate button, all of it. Clean across the board.

He paid exactly what I quoted on the phone. He mentioned the dealer had given him a price that was a significant chunk more, which would have been on top of what the first guy already took from him. By the time he called me, he just wanted someone to finish the job correctly. That's the part I can actually control.
