I got a call around 3 in the afternoon from a guy in a kitchen parking lot somewhere near Rancho El Cajon. Line cook. Shift at 4. His 2009 Odyssey would not start, his chef was already calling, and you could hear exactly how bad the math was getting.

He clocked in at 4:10. The dealer would have meant a tow, a wait, and most of his shift gone. That part almost never comes up in the conversation at the time. People are just relieved to get moving.
