Can You Program an LR3 Key Yourself?
Land Rover LR3 (certain configurations): self-programming is not available. These require OBD-II programming along with a security PIN pulled from the vehicle's computer. A professional locksmith or dealer with the right equipment is required.
Land Rover LR3 (other configurations): the smart key communication on this model is encrypted and requires server-authenticated programming. No on-board DIY method exists for these vehicles.
Land Rover LR3 (select years): a basic key-learning procedure is supported on some versions. Insert a working key, turn to RUN, and wait ten minutes for the security light to go off. Turn the ignition off, immediately insert the new key, turn to RUN, and wait another ten minutes. Repeat once more. Three ten-minute cycles in total. This only applies to specific configurations, so confirm before attempting.

Stolen LR3 Key - What to Do Now
A stolen LR3 key that was already programmed can still start your vehicle. The right move is to have all existing keys erased from the factory immobilizer as quickly as possible. Existing Key Stopped Working After a New One Was Programmed
On some LR3 vehicles, adding a new key can erase other keys already stored in the immobilizer memory. This is why every key should be present during the programming session. If one was left out, it will need to be reprogrammed to work again.

Early in the LR3's run, Land Rover moved away from a traditional fixed-blade key toward a flip-style design. The blade folds into the fob body, combining the remote and mechanical key into a single unit that's easier to carry in a pocket.
Integrated Fob Design
Land Rover later brought all key functions together into one fob for the LR3. Remote locking, proximity entry, trunk release, and remote start were handled by a single unit with no separate pieces to keep track of.
All-Electronic Era
Physical key functions were removed entirely on some LR3 configurations. Vehicle access and starting became fully electronic, relying on proximity entry and push-button start, with phone-based backup as an option.
