Land Rover LR3 Key History
Flip Key Transition
Land Rover moved the LR3 from a traditional fixed-blade key to a flip-style key with the blade folding into the fob body. This combined the remote and key into one unit and made the key more pocket-friendly.
Integrated Fob Design
Land Rover consolidated all key functions into a single sleek fob for the LR3 - remote lock/unlock, proximity start, trunk release, and remote start in one unit with no separate pieces.
All-Electronic Era
Physical key functions were fully eliminated on the LR3. All access and starting is electronic - proximity entry, push-button start, and phone-as-key backup.
Current Generation
The current Land Rover LR3 uses the latest key platform with the strongest encryption available. Programming requires up-to-date professional tools. We stay current and handle these on-site.
Which Key Does Your LR3 Have?
Not sure which key your Land Rover LR3 uses? Look at the FCC ID printed on the back of your current fob. That 10-character code tells us exactly which replacement you need. Or call {PHONE} with your VIN.

A key with a transponder chip but no remote buttons. You get immobilizer security (the car will not start without a programmed chip) but no remote lock/unlock. A separate fob can be added for remote functions.

Common Land Rover LR3 Key Issues
Stolen LR3 Key - What to Do
People think the ignition is bad when their LR3 cranks but won't start. Nine times out of ten, it is the transponder. The ID46 chip weakens over time or fails after water exposure. We test the chip signal first; sometimes a reprogram is all it takes.
Second Key Stopped Working After Programming New One
We check the seal around the battery compartment first. LR3 remote head keys are notorious for poor weatherproofing on 2006-2009 models. Moisture gets in, the CR2032 drains fast, buttons work only when they feel like it. New cell and clean seal fixes it.
LR3 Fob Shell Cracked or Broken
The laser-cut blade on your LR3 key wears fast, especially 2005-2007 models. Once cuts lose depth the blade binds in the ignition cylinder. We cut a fresh blade on-site using a Sec-E9 precision cutter, matched to your lock, not the worn original.
Can You Program a LR3 Key Yourself?
Land Rover LR3: Self-programming is NOT available. This generation requires OBD-II programming with a security PIN from the vehicle's ECU. A professional locksmith or dealer is required.
Land Rover LR3: This model uses encrypted smart key communication that requires server-authenticated programming. No DIY or on-board method exists.
Land Rover LR3: Basic key learning is supported. Insert working key, turn to RUN, wait 10 minutes for security light to go off, turn OFF, immediately insert new key, turn to RUN, wait 10 minutes. Repeat once more. Three 10-minute cycles total.
