2009 Land Rover LR3 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy over in Libby Lake, near the park. He had a 2009 LR3 that had been sitting in his driveway for about two weeks while he drove a work truck. When he went back to it, his only key would not start the car. Fob buttons were dead, engine would crank but immediately cut out. Classic scenario.
He had already been to a parts store and swapped in a fresh CR2032, which did bring the remote functions back. But the car still cranked and died every time. He was convinced it was a fuel pump.
I walked him through what I was seeing before I even touched a tool. When a key loses communication with the immobilizer on these, the remote functions and the start authorization are handled separately. The battery fix got him his lock and unlock back, but the transponder side had lost its pairing. The engine starting and immediately stalling is exactly what that looks like.
Pulled up on his street with everything in the van, connected to the OBD port, confirmed the key was present in memory but flagged, cleared it out, and re-enrolled the existing key. Did not need a new key at all. Took about forty minutes on site, most of which was the tool doing its thing.
He said the dealer told him over the phone it would be a week before they could even look at it. He was back driving the same afternoon.
