ID 4D60 Transponder Key
On-board programming keeps this one straightforward. The 2000-2001 Galant carries a MIT9-P transponder key with an ID 4D60 chip and the HYQ12ABA remote. We plug into the data port under the dash, write the chip, and pair the remote separately. Simple workflow, no drama on the curb.
MIT13-PT Remote Head Key
On-board programming continues. Mitsubishi shifted to the MIT13-PT with a built-in remote on a CR2025 battery and a standard MIT6 blade. The transponder still programs through the diagnostic port and the remote pairs after. The head sits thicker because the remote buttons are integrated.
OUCG8D-525M-A Remote Head Key
On-board programming with a fresh FCC ID. The 2004-2005 Galant runs the MIT16A-PT key with the OUCG8D-525M-A remote, still on a CR2025. Same MIT6 blade profile, different transponder chip. We use Autel or MVP Pro for the programming pass on the curb.
OUCG8D-620M-A Remote Head Key
On-board programming, slightly updated remote. The 2006-2007 jumped to the OUCG8D-620M-A remote and a CR2032 battery. Keyless entry now builds into the transponder key itself. Critical detail: programming a new key erases every existing key from memory, so every key has to land on the curb when the van arrives.

Key Programming Erases All Keys
Owners assume a new key gets added without touching the old ones. Not how this works. Programming wipes every existing key from memory. Every key has to be physically present and reprogrammed in the same session. Bring all four when the van arrives.
Transponder Chip Failure
First check: is the transponder still talking to the immobilizer? Diagnostic reader to the key first. Dead chip means engine cranks but refuses to fire, and no jiggling fixes it. Fresh key, cut and programmed on the curb, closes it out.
Remote No Self-Programming
The HYQ12ABA, OUCG8D-525M-A, and OUCG8D-620M-A remotes all demand pro equipment to pair. No button-press or ignition trick exists. We pair through OBD-II. Anyone citing a YouTube trick is thinking of a different car.
Fault Codes Block Programming
Car refuses a new key, owner assumes the key is bad. Nine out of ten times the real culprit is stored fault codes in the immobilizer ECU. Old errors, dead-battery events, or botched programming all block new keys. We clear codes first, then program.
Can You Program a Galant Key Yourself?
No path. The 2000-2003 Galant transponder chip needs a professional diagnostic tool connected to the OBD-II port under the dash.
No path on the 2004-2007 either. Every existing key gets erased during the process, and a security password is required. Locksmith or dealer territory, period.
