First Generation (V37)
Your 2014 through 2016 Q60 uses a 3-button smart key with an ID46 transponder chip and Infiniti's NATS immobilizer. That means the car and the key have an encrypted conversation every time you hit the start button. We program these on-site through the OBD-II port, which is the diagnostic connector under your dash. No tow, no dealer appointment.
First Generation Facelift (V37)
Your 2017 or 2018 Q60 got an updated fob design, but under the hood it is the same NATS system with an ID46 chip. Still a 3-button smart key, still a CR2032 battery, still programmable through OBD-II. Infiniti changed the look but kept the security architecture the same, which means we handle these the exact same way.
Final Facelift (V37)
Your 2019 or 2020 Q60 is where things get more involved. Infiniti likely moved to an ID47 chip and added server authentication, meaning the key has to be verified through Nissan's online servers during programming. We can still handle these, but the process takes a bit longer and requires a live data connection on-site. We will confirm your exact setup before we roll out.
Which Key Does Your Q60 Use?
A black proximity fob with three buttons and a hidden emergency key blade inside. You never need to insert it anywhere; just carry it and press the start button.
Updated fob design from the facelift, but same 3-button layout and hidden high-security blade. Works identically to the earlier version.
Same physical style as the 2017 through 2018 fob, but the internal chip and programming requirements changed. This one may need server authentication during setup.

Smart Key Fob Battery Drain
First check is the fob's internal antenna and battery compartment seal. Rapid Q60 drain usually means a faulty antenna pulling power constantly or water inside through a cracked seam. New CR2032 every few weeks? The fob itself needs replacing.
NATS Immobilizer Sync Loss
People think their key died when NATS actually lost its handshake with the fob. Happens on 2017-2020 Q60s after a battery disconnect or ECM reset. Fix is a full OBD-II relearn. We carry the tools and handle it on the spot, about 30 minutes in Simi Valley.
Proximity Sensor Malfunction
You press the start button and nothing happens, though the fob battery is fresh and the key is right there on the seat. On 2014 through 2016 Q60s, the proximity sensors in the door handle or dash can fail intermittently. it works, it does not. We test the sensors and the fob signal strength to figure out which side of the equation is broken before recommending anything.
Key Blade Wear
The Q60 uses a high-security HU66 blade profile, and these blades wear down faster than you would expect on a daily driver. Once the cuts get rounded off, the blade will not turn the emergency door cylinder or may not seat in the fob housing. We cut new blades on-site with a precision cutter, matched to original or decoded from the lock.
Can You Program a Q60 Key Yourself?
No self-programming option exists. The NATS immobilizer requires professional diagnostic equipment connected through the OBD-II port. There is no key dance or button sequence that will register a new smart key.
Same story as the earlier years. Infiniti's NATS system locks out any DIY programming attempts. You need a professional tool like the Autel IM608 or Nissan CONSULT to add or replace keys.
These years add server authentication on top of the NATS system, making DIY even less feasible. The key has to be verified through Nissan's servers during programming. Professional equipment and a live connection are both required.
