I got a call from a guy in Mar Vista, Oxnard, on a Tuesday afternoon. He owned a 2021 Infiniti Q60 and had lost his only fob over the weekend. Not a spare situation. All keys lost.
He'd already called the dealer. They told him parts would need to be ordered and he was looking at several days minimum before he could get his car back. He works out of his car. Several days wasn't happening.
I had him text me the VIN before I left. That let me confirm the fob he needed, check that I had the right blank in stock, and show up ready instead of diagnosing in the parking lot.
When I got there, the Q60 was sitting in a carport. He was standing next to it with that look people get when they're not sure this is going to work. I've seen it plenty of times.
I decoded the lock, cut the emergency insert blade, then connected my diagnostic tool to the OBD port. The all-keys-lost routine on these takes longer than a spare-key add because the system has to be cleared and reset before a new fob can be registered. I explained that while the tool was running. He watched the whole thing, asked a few good questions about how the immobilizer communicates with the fob, and relaxed once the first button test came back solid.
I walked every function. Lock, unlock, all remaining buttons, then started the car three times from varying distances in the carport to check range. Clean.
He made a comment about the dealer estimate. I let it sit there. He knew what he'd saved and I didn't need to pile on. He asked for a second fob right then, which I did back to back while I still had the tool connected. That part was faster since the system was already in programming mode.
He had two working keys and was back on his day inside an hour.
