Got a call from a woman near the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center in Oxnard. She had her infant in the car seat of her 2015 Infiniti Q60, had stepped away for maybe thirty seconds to return a shopping cart, and the key fob just quit. Doors locked, baby strapped in, remote doing nothing.
Dealer was closed. A tow truck wasn't the answer. She needed the door open and her child out.
I got there fast. Door open first, baby out immediately. Mom was shaking a little but holding it together. Then I looked at the fob.
Dead circuit board, not a dead battery. The CR2032 was fine, but the board inside the KR55WK49622 shell had a cracked solder joint on the transmitter side. Common failure point on these. I used my VVDI2 to pull the transponder data from the original fob's 46 chip and write it to a new unit, which saved us from running a full all-keys-lost procedure through the NATS6 system. Cut the NI06 emergency blade on the spot, programmed the new four-button Intelligent Key through OBD, and tested every function at the car.
The baby slept through the whole thing in the stroller next to us.
She drove home that evening. Some calls stay with you longer than others, and that one does.
