Marina West in Oxnard has that mix of waterfront condos and people who are always somewhere between two places they need to be. I got a call there on a weekday afternoon from a woman who had just walked out to her Q60 and gotten nothing. Push-button start sat there blank. The door handles weren't picking up the fob at all. She had replaced the battery herself a few weeks before, so that wasn't the first guess.
I pulled up and she handed me the fob. First thing I did was check the battery seating. CR2032 was in there, but the contact had a slight bow to it and the battery wasn't sitting flush. I corrected the contact, reseated the battery, tested range. Still nothing reliable. The fob had developed an internal fault on top of the loose contact, which happens.
So we went the full route. I connected my diagnostic tool to the OBD port and ran through the Infiniti security access sequence for this generation. There's a timed window in the process where you just have to let it run, so I used that time to prep the new fob and cut the emergency blade to the vehicle. Once access cleared, I registered the new fob and confirmed the old one was no longer enrolled.
Then the walk-around: touch unlock on both front handles, the lock button on the handle, all five buttons on the fob, and the push-button start. Everything responded the way it should.
She mentioned the dealer had given her an appointment three days out and quoted her a number that made her pause. She didn't say much else about it. Didn't have to.
