Down in Oxnard Beach Park, right off Harbor Boulevard, a Q60 owner called about his push-start acting up. Sometimes it worked, sometimes "Key ID Incorrect" popped up. Classic intermittent problem that drives people crazy.
He'd already been to the dealer once. They wanted to replace the key and update the BCM software. Two separate visits, he'd have to leave the car overnight.
I met him in his driveway with my Autel IM608. First thing I checked: TSB NTB21-055a. His VIN fell right in the range for the BCM update. But before diving into that, I scanned for codes. Sure enough, B2799 stored in the BCM.
I could've just cleared it and sent him on his way, but that's asking for a callback. Instead, I did the BCM update right there through the OBD port. Takes about 12 minutes with the ignition cycling through the sequences. Then I reprogrammed both his keys to the updated BCM using the registration process.
The intermittent starts stopped. No more random "Key ID Incorrect" messages. One visit, fixed in his driveway, for way less than what the dealer quoted for the same job spread over two days.
