2022 Infiniti Qx55
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost versus just adding a spare?

More. Sometimes a lot more, depending on how the job has to be approached. When you still have a working intelligent key for the QX55, adding a spare is a standard OBD programming session. The system already has a registered key in memory, so enrollment is clean and fast. When every key is gone, the job changes. The security data has to be accessed through the OBD port, a PIN extracted, and new keys generated from zero.

Q: Are aftermarket Infiniti smart keys cheaper, and do they actually work?

They're cheaper upfront. Whether they work depends entirely on where they came from. Professional-grade aftermarket intelligent keys sourced through locksmith supply channels are built to OEM spec and pair reliably on the QX55. The cheap fobs showing up on general retail sites are a different story. Locksmiths working Nissan and Infiniti jobs regularly report receiving units with incomplete internal electronics, brittle cases, and buttons that stop responding within a few months of use.

Q: My QX55 fob suddenly shows short range. The door handles barely respond unless I'm right up against the car. Is the fob failing?

Short range is almost always the battery before it's anything else. The CR2032 in this fob can read as present on a battery tester and still be too weak to drive the radio signal at normal distance. Swap the battery first, make sure the contacts inside the fob are seated flat, and test all four door handles plus the start button.

Q: I have a spare key for my QX55 but I never tested it. How do I know if it's actually registered and will start the car?

Test it now, not the day your primary fob fails. Walk to the car with only the spare in hand, nothing else in your pocket, and try the door handle, the start button, and the lock and unlock buttons. If all of that works, the key is registered and functional. A common issue is that a key was cut and handed over but the programming step was either skipped or done incorrectly. It happens more often than it should.

2022 Infiniti Qx55 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out at Ventura Harbor, a landscape photographer had been shooting down by the water and somewhere between his gear bag and the dock, his only QX55 fob disappeared. He figured it fell into the water. Maybe a pocket with no zipper. Either way, it was gone, and his 2022 Infiniti QX55 was sitting in the lot with nothing to start it.

He called another locksmith first. That one quoted him a number well over five hundred dollars and mentioned drilling the door cylinder as part of the process. He called me after that.

I decoded his door lock mechanically, reading the wafer positions without touching anything destructive. The lock cylinder looked exactly the same when I was done as it did when I arrived. From those cut depths I built a working blade, then handled the all-keys-lost sequence through the OBD port to get the new fob registered and the old fob cleared from the system. His remote, the factory 5-button unit matching his original, came up paired and functional. Start button, door lock, everything working.

He asked me how long the other locksmith's method would have taken. I told him probably longer, and he'd have been replacing a perfectly good cylinder on top of it.

The dealer was over an hour's drive from Ventura Harbor. He was back to shooting before the tide changed. Paid a fraction of what the first quote was.

Infiniti Qx55 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to replace my Infiniti QX55 key?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer. Infiniti dealers tend to quote a significant amount for a single smart key replacement, and that figure often doesn't include all the line items until you're already there. With EZ Car Keyz, everything comes to you in Ventura. The fob, the cut, the programming, it's one visit, one price. No tow, no days-long wait for a VIN-ordered key, no separate diagnostic charge bolted on at the end. Call for current pricing.
