First Generation (Pre-facelift)
The 1995 Windstar shipped with a pure mechanical key, no transponder, no immobilizer. The same year it won Motor Trend Car of the Year, the locksmith story was as simple as door-cylinder impressioning for all-keys-lost.
First Generation (Facelift)
The 1996-1998 vans got PATS I out of the gate. Texas 4C transponder in the head of a plain blade, on-board self-pair with a working key.
Second Generation
The 1999-2003 refresh moved to PATS II with the Texas 4D63 chip. Some trims added the 3-button remote head key option, standard cut blade, CR2032 in the head.
