His truck uses a remote fob separate from the key, so the fob was fine. I just needed to cut and program a new transponder blade. The PATS system accepted the new chip within one security cycle.
He was back on the highway in under an hour from when he called, and the total was $139. Dealer would have charged $321 plus a tow and a multi-day wait. A snapped key at a gas station on a trip feels like a disaster. For these older Ford trucks, it's one of the simplest jobs I run.
