Jimmy Problems We Solve in San Diego
PK3 Immobilizer Sync Loss
After 25 years, the PK3 BCM in old Jimmys sometimes loses sync with the transponder chip. Dash lights, no crank. We re-pair on-site using the BCM PIN.
Worn Ignition Cylinders
S/T platform ignition cylinders wear after two decades of use. Fresh-cut keys buy time, but if the cylinder is shot, we tell you up front before doing the cut.
Chip Compatibility Mistakes
Some auto-parts stores hand out 'Texas 4D' blanks for the Jimmy. Wrong chip. Philips ID46 only. Wrong chip equals dead car after programming.
Can You Program a Jimmy Key in Your Driveway?
Only if you already have two existing working keys. GM's two-key on-board procedure adds a third by inserting and turning each existing key for 10 minutes, then the new key. The new key still needs to be cut and chip-programmed first, which requires a locksmith.

Jimmy Trivia
The Jimmy name went back to 1970 as GMC's twin of the Chevy Blazer, but the 1998-2001 S/T platform Jimmy was the last to wear the badge in the US before GMC renamed it the Envoy for 2002. The PK3 immobilizer in every late-90s Jimmy uses Philips ID46, the same chip GM kept running through the mid-2010s across nearly every truck and SUV in the lineup. The 2001 was the final Jimmy.
