Envoy Key Generations 1998 to 2009
PASSLock I Era
Launch generation. Standard transponder with GM PK3 immobilizer. Philips ID46 chip with on-board two-key programming. Common in late-90s S/T platform Jimmys converted to Envoy badge.
PASSLock II Upgrade
Second-gen launched 2002 on GMT360 platform. Same PK3 architecture, larger remote, same ID46 chip. Common ticket from El Cajon and Spring Valley owners.
GMT360 Second Gen
Mid-cycle 2004-2006 with refined remote. Still PK3, still ID46, but the BCM logic tightened. Programming workflow unchanged.
PASS-Key III+ Security
Final years 2007-2009. Last GMT360 builds. Same key architecture, common service from Chula Vista to La Jolla as these trucks age.

Envoy Problems We Solve in San Diego
PK3 Immobilizer Sync Loss
After 20-plus years, the PK3 immobilizer in old Envoys sometimes loses sync with the transponder chip. Dash lights, no crank. We re-pair on-site using the BCM PIN. Done in an hour.
Worn Ignition Cylinders
GMT360 ignition cylinders wear after two decades. A fresh-cut key buys you time, but if the cylinder is shot, we tell you before we do anything else.
Remote Head Button Wear
Rubber dome buttons wear through on heavy-use 2nd-gen remotes. We rebuild the housing or transfer the chip to a fresh shell on-site.
Aftermarket Chip Confusion
Some forums claim Envoy uses 'Texas 4D' chips. Wrong. Philips ID46. Wrong chip equals dead car after programming.
Can You Program an Envoy Key Yourself?
Only if you have two existing working keys. GM's two-key on-board procedure adds a third by inserting key 1 for 10 minutes, then key 2 for 10 minutes, then the new key. New key still needs to be cut and chip-programmed first, which requires a locksmith.

Envoy Trivia
The Envoy was originally a Canadian-market Jimmy from 1998 to 2001, then became the GMC version of the GMT360 Trailblazer for the 2002 redesign. GM produced the Envoy through 2009 before discontinuing it to consolidate around the Acadia. The PK3 immobilizer architecture in every Envoy uses the Philips ID46 chip, the same chip family that ran across most GM SUVs and trucks from 1997 through the mid-2010s.
