2003 GMC Envoy
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2003 GMC Envoy Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She was closing up at a brewery in Downtown National City after a bartending shift and her purse was gone. Someone had taken it from behind the bar during the rush. Car keys, wallet, phone, everything in one shot.

She borrowed a coworker's phone. Called the police first, then her roommate, then me.

Her 2003 GMC Envoy was sitting in the brewery lot with zero keys. Her roommate had already called the dealer. The dealer said they could order the parts but it would be three to five business days, the car would need to be towed in, and they strongly suggested rekeying since the stolen key could still open the doors. The combined estimate was not pretty.

I got there that night. All-keys-lost is a different job than adding a spare. When you add a key to a vehicle that already has a working fob, the car trusts what it already knows and just adds the new one to the approved list. All-keys-lost means wiping the entire key memory first, so the stolen fob is dead to that car permanently before anything new gets enrolled.

I accessed the body control module through the diagnostic port, cleared the old key data, and programmed two new remotes from scratch. Cut the blade to the vehicle on site. Tested every function on both fobs before I called it done.

She drove home that night. The stolen fob cannot start that Envoy or unlock the doors. The police were still wrapping up their report when I was already packed.

The dealer route would have meant a tow, a multi-day wait, and a bill that made her roommate wince when she heard it. She paid a fraction of that, same night, in the parking lot where it happened.
