2007 GMC Envoy
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2007 GMC Envoy Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman in the Fernbrook area of Ramona on a weekday morning. She had her 2007 Envoy sitting in the driveway and her only working remote had stopped unlocking the doors from more than a few feet away. She thought the whole system was failing.

She'd already been to a parts store and replaced the CR2032 herself, which was the right instinct. But the range was still short and the lock button was acting intermittent. She was wondering if she needed the dealer.

When I got there, I looked at the fob she'd replaced the battery in. The contact leaf on one side had a slight outward bow from how the case had been pried open -- common with these housings when people use a screwdriver instead of a coin. The battery was making contact, but not consistently under the vibration of daily use. I straightened the contact, reseated the CR2032, and snapped the case together correctly.

Then I walked the car. Lock, unlock, panic, tested from across the driveway and from inside the house. Solid response every time.

She didn't need a new remote. The dealer was never part of this conversation, but if it had come to reprogramming, she would have been looking at a trip across town and a wait. Instead I was done before she finished her coffee.
