2009 GMC Envoy Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was out in The Crosby area of Rancho Santa Fe on a Tuesday night when this one came in.
A traveling nurse on a contract assignment had been using the hotel front desk like a lifeline since her only Envoy key stopped working that afternoon. The remote would lock and unlock the doors intermittently, but when she cranked the engine, the security light came on and the car died after a few seconds. Classic sign that the transponder side had given up.
The desk handed her the dealer's number. The dealer said tow it in, they'd look at it the next afternoon, and quoted her a number that made her pause. She found me online and called instead.
I pulled up to the lot, opened the OBD port, and confirmed the key's chip was no longer communicating with the immobilizer correctly. The blade on her existing key was also worn enough that I'd have cut a fresh one regardless. I generated a replacement remote, cut the blade to her vehicle on the machine in my van, and enrolled the new key through the OBD port. The whole job ran about 30 minutes on site.
The part that got her was that she didn't have to tow it anywhere. The car was sitting right there in the lot, under the lights, and she watched the whole thing happen. When the engine turned over and held, she just stood there for a second like she was waiting for it to quit again. It didn't.
She was back on shift the next morning. The dealer route would have cost her a tow, a lost afternoon, and a wait that stretched to the following day.
