Three-button SmartAccess fob with a folded high-security emergency blade. The transponder is a Texas 4D (ID47) that has to match your ECU exactly before the V8 or hybrid powertrain will turn over. Pairing demands Techstream with Toyota server authentication, so no hardware store and no DIY menu touches this.
Facelift LC: 2021-2023
Lexus refreshed transmitter part numbers but left the core platform alone. Same Texas 4D (ID47), same 3-button smart key, same CR2032 cell, same server-authenticated programming. The architecture did not change, so the tooling and the procedure are byte-identical to the launch cars.
2024 LC: Digital Key Added
The 2024 LC layered Digital Key over Bluetooth through the Lexus app, a convenience feature, not a programming change. The physical smart key still runs the Texas 4D (ID47) and still needs server auth to register. The emergency blade, the CR2032, the immobilizer flow all carried over from 2018.

Proximity fob. Keep it on you, walk to the car, the doors unlock. Press the brake and the start button to fire. The hidden blade inside is purely for the day your battery dies.

Lost Smart Key High Cost

Smart Key Battery Drain
Owners blame the fob when the issue is a drained CR2032. Parking the LC at home with the key on a hook by the front door keeps the proximity loop pinging and chewing the cell. Move the key 10 feet away when parked, months more per cell.
Key Not Detected Error
Proximity signal weakens in cold or with a low cell, throwing 'Key Not Detected' with the fob in plain view. Press the fob flat against the start button with foot on brake. Engine fires, you need a CR2032. No crank, transponder needs a re-pair.
Immobilizer Sync Failure
On 2022-2024 LC, a dropped or disconnected 12V breaks sync between smart key and immobilizer. Push-button goes silent. Fix is a dealer-level Techstream reset to re-pair key to ECU, which we run curbside in Rancho Bernardo or El Cajon.
DIY a Lexus LC Key? Reality Check
Zero self-programming exists for the LC. The engine immobilizer demands a chip-to-ECU match that only Techstream can register over OBD. This is professional-tool territory.
Same answer as the launch LC. Server authentication is required to pair a fresh smart key to the immobilizer. No button sequence, no hidden menu, nothing on YouTube works.
The 2024 Digital Key feature only adds phone-based unlock; it does nothing for programming a physical replacement fob. Techstream with server auth is still mandatory.
