2021 Lexus LC Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A resident at one of the towers along Coronado Shores called me on a weekday afternoon. He had a 2021 Lexus LC, one working smart key, and a quote from the Lexus dealer that made him pause. He wanted a backup before he ever needed one, not after.
He had already done the right thing by calling around. The dealer told him to bring the car in, plan for a wait, and expect a bill that he described as "more than I thought a key cost."
I drove to his building and met him in the parking structure. The job on the LC is not a walk-up-and-press-a-button situation. Programming a second smart key on this vehicle requires going through the OBD port with professional diagnostic equipment to register the new fob to the immobilizer. I also decoded the door lock cylinder and cut a matching emergency blade insert so the physical key inside the fob actually worked his car, not just any car. That part matters more than people think. A fob that communicates but has a miscut blade is useless the moment the battery dies at the wrong time.
Start to finish, we were done in under an hour. He had a fully programmed spare, confirmed every button, tested the door handles, and watched the dash acknowledge both fobs without complaint.
He saved a good chunk versus the dealer route, and he never left the building.
