XZ10 Refresh: Smart Key + Laser Blade
2019 onward, the ES went full proximity. Push-button start, CR2032-powered fob, laser-cut emergency blade folded into the body. Programming demands real diagnostic access; we plug in the Autel and the VVDI at the curb and you skip the dealer entirely.
XZ20 Era: Latest Production
The newest ES inherits the smart key, the laser blade, and the CR2032. Programming flows through dealer-level tooling, and because this generation only entered production in late 2025, we VIN-verify every spec before the van rolls. Whatever we can or cannot do on-site, you hear the truth up front.

Transponder Key Loss or Damage
Step one on every ES call: the spare-key question. With one working key on a 1998-2004 ES, an add-key is fast and cheap. All keys lost flips it to a full immobilizer reset, more time and money. Make a spare before the only one disappears at a Carlsbad lot.
Smart Key Fob Battery Depletion
Dead CR2032 in a 2019+ ES fob mimics a dead key. Doors stop unlocking, start button ignores you. The laser-cut emergency blade opens the driver door, and the dead fob held against the start button fires the engine. Fresh CR2032 brings it back online.
Key Will Not Start the Car
Press the button, get nothing. On 1998-2006 ES, the cause is the transponder chip in the key head losing handshake with the immobilizer. On 2019+ cars it is more often a fob desync or a deeper programming fault. Either way, diagnosis happens at driveway first.
Immobilizer System Compatibility Issues
ES immobilizer architecture changed sharply across generations. Basic transponder early, then encrypted smart-key proximity later. Drop the wrong blank or chip into the wrong year and you lock the ECU. We match chip and procedure to VIN every single time.
