2010 Lexus ES Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Cardiff-by-the-Sea is one of those neighborhoods where I'll get a call, park on a quiet street a block from the beach, and do a full smart key job while the owner watches from a camp chair in the driveway. That's basically what happened with this 2010 Lexus ES.
The owner had one working fob and wanted a backup. Smart move. One key on a smart key vehicle is always one bad day away from a very expensive situation.
I decoded the door lock and cut a new emergency blade first, then connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port. The immobilizer registration on this generation requires reading the security data from the smart ECU and running a timed enrollment sequence. I set up battery support before starting. Sixteen minutes is a long time to sit on a curb, but losing power mid-reset is not something I'm willing to gamble on.
While we waited out the timer, we talked about the car. He'd had it since it was nearly new. Well kept, low drama.
After the sequence completed, I registered the new fob and ran the full check. Every button. Lock, unlock, trunk. Range from across the driveway, range from the sidewalk, range from around the corner of the house. Then three clean consecutive starts. I do that because I want to confirm the immobilizer isn't just tolerating the key on the first try, it's actually reading it consistently.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait time measured in days and a price that made him look elsewhere. I was done in under an hour, parked right in front of his house.
