In Ocean View Hills, over in Otay Mesa, a woman called me about her 2025 Lexus ES. She had bought it used with a single fob. One fob, no spare, and she had been meaning to get a second made since the day she bought it. That day never came.
The fob housing had split along the seam, probably from a drop, and when she tried to use the emergency insert blade to get in manually, it snapped. Half the blade was stuck in the door lock cylinder. She had the fob shell in one hand and nothing else.
The good news nobody thinks about in that moment: the transponder chip inside the broken housing was still intact. I pulled the chip out of the cracked case, confirmed it was reading correctly, and extracted the blade fragment from the cylinder without damaging the lock. Then I decoded the cylinder, cut two new blades, and transferred the original chip into a fresh housing so her existing key registration stayed valid. No full all-keys-lost reset needed, which saved real time.
The second fob was enrolled on site using my diagnostic equipment. Both keys tested on every function before I packed up. She went from zero working keys to two in about 45 minutes.
She mentioned the dealer had already given her a number. It was a lot more, and they told her three to five days to order the parts.
