2015 Lexus ES Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Lakeside Proper called me on a Tuesday morning. He had watched one of my Lexus smart key videos a few months back, saved my number, and figured he would never need it. Then he needed it.
His 2015 ES had been giving him the key-not-detected warning on the dash for about a week. He had already swapped the CR1632 himself, which was the right call. Fresh battery, correct type, seated correctly. The warning went away for two days. Then it came back.
When I got to him, the fob looked fine from the outside. I opened it up and the battery contact was slightly bent inward, not making full pressure against the cell even with a new battery seated. I straightened the contact, reseated the CR1632, and tested every function: touch unlock on both front handles, the lock button, the start button response at distance, and the trunk release. Everything came back clean.
Then I ran a quick diagnostic read on the fob communication just to confirm nothing had drifted in the registration between the fob and the vehicle. It was solid. No re-pairing needed.
He had gone three days assuming he was looking at a full key replacement. He was not. The fix was a bent contact and about twenty minutes of my time.
I told him to keep that spare fob idea in the back of his mind anyway. These fobs are not getting cheaper, and an all-keys-lost situation on the ES is a longer job with a timed process built into the reset. One working key plus one registered spare is the move.
