I got a call from a guy over in Otay Mesa West on a Saturday afternoon. He'd already had a bad experience with another locksmith and was upfront about it from the first sentence.
He'd called someone he found through a discount ad, paid a significant amount, and his smart key came back only halfway working. The immobilizer showed the key as registered but the smart entry module hadn't completed its side of the handshake.
I cleared the registration, ran the full sequence with my diagnostic equipment, and re-enrolled the fob from scratch. Walked every button, tested passive entry at both front doors, confirmed the start button responded consistently, and checked that the mechanical emergency blade inside the fob was cut correctly to the vehicle.
He watched the whole thing. When the door handle unlocked on the first touch he just nodded like he'd expected it to take longer.
The dealer quote he'd gotten before trying the discount locksmith was more than he wanted to spend. What I charged him was a fraction of that, and the job was done in his parking lot without towing anything anywhere.
